The Northern Connection

NorthCon: Bridging Communities and Promoting Innovation in the North

NorthCon means the Northern Connection, and it is led by a group of digital content creators based in Baguio City. It traces its roots from the original core group of bloggers and creators who initiated the first Baguio BlogCon or bloggers conference in Baguio several years back.

In 2022, it became NorthCon with a Luzon-wide conference held in Baguio City in August 2022, at the Baguio Convention Center. NorthCon 2022 aptly titled “Social Media in the New Normal,” featured some of the most innovative and thought-provoking speakers and professionals in the digital marketing, media, and social media industries, providing audiences with cutting-edge strategies, best practices, and experience gained from successful digital marketing campaigns.

Its core group includes local bloggers that cover different areas including food, local culture, lifestyle, and local events and brands.

Since its establishment, NorthCon has been a significant influence in encouraging community growth, innovation, and connectivity particularly in Baguio City and Benguet.  This organization, dedicated to empowering local content creators and communities has undertaken numerous initiatives that hopes to have substantial impact on responsible content creation as well as support local communities and businesses.

Community Empowerment Through Education and Training

One of the primary initiatives of NorthCon has been its focus on education and training. Recognizing the importance of knowledge and skills in today’s fast-paced world, the organization has launched various programs aimed at equipping community members with the tools they need to succeed.

In partnership with the SLU Communications Faculty and students, NorthCon conducted a conference featuring discussions on ethical content creation, Philippine copyright and intellectual property, and updates on the media and communication industries. Attended by senior high school students from SLU’s Laboratory HS, the program also included a career guidance session with invited digital marketers, content creators, and media practitioners from NorthCon.

Promoting Local Art and Culture

NorthCon has also been instrumental in preserving and promoting the rich cultural heritage of Baguio and the Cordilleras. By supporting local events such as art exhibits, cultural festivals, and heritage tours, the organization has showcased the talents of local artists and artisans, bringing their work to a broader audience. These events not only celebrate the region’s unique traditions but also provide a platform for artists to gain recognition and support.

Support for Local Businesses

Baguio City and Benguets’ local businesses and entrepreneurs, like other businesses in the country, need all the help they can get, to be more resilient and agile. NorthCon, through its members, write about newly established businesses such as restaurants, local accommodations, and other establishments. They have also worked with more established businesses that are looking to promote new items or features.

Looking Ahead

As NorthCon continues to grow, its vision for the future remains clear: to create a vibrant, inclusive, and sustainable northern region where every individual has the opportunity to thrive. With its ongoing commitment to community empowerment, cultural preservation, and local economic development, NorthCon is set to make an even greater impact in the years to come.

In a world where connectivity often feels limited to the digital realm, NorthCon stands out as a symbol of real, tangible community connection and growth.
